This rapid review was conducted to assess the current evidence base regarding the impact that these new strains may have on current COVID-19 infection prevention and control recommendations for Scottish health and care settings.

The following research questions were assessed: 

  • ​What is the current evidence base regarding the infection control implications in Scottish health and care settings of spread of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 (VOC-202012/01 or B.1.1.7) within the UK? 
  • What is the current evidence base regarding the infection control implications in Scottish health and care settings of spread of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 (B.1.351 or 501.V2 or 501Y.V2) within the UK?​​
