Request

  1. A copy of this Board's current policy and procedure for obtaining informed consent from mothers for the disposition (retention, use, donation, or disposal) of the placenta and umbilical cord following birth.
  2. For the last three financial years, please provide:
  3. a) The total annual cost of clinical waste disposal from maternity/obstetric services.
  4. b) The name(s) of the contractor(s) holding the clinical waste disposal contract for these services.
  5. c) Any schedules or clauses within said contract(s) pertaining to the "recovery," "valorisation," "recycling," or alternative use of biological materials.
  6. All training materials, guidelines, or communication scripts provided to midwifery and medical staff regarding discussions with mothers about options for placental and cord tissue.
  7. Any internal briefings, cost-benefit analyses, or meeting minutes from the last five years that discuss the financial, logistical, or ethical implications of offering mothers the option to take placental tissue home.
