“I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 relating to medicines utilisation within Scottish hospitals.
Please provide an extract from the Hospital Medicines Utilisation Database (HMUD) for all products classified within BNF Chapter 9 – Nutrition and Blood, covering the period 1 April 2023 to the latest complete month available.
I would like the data to be provided at individual hospital level, with one row per hospital, product and month where possible, containing the following fields:
- Calendar year
- Calendar month
- NHS Board
- Hospital
- BNF code/classification, where held
- Drug substance/product name
- Drug product pack name – virtual or actual product pack name, whichever is stored within HMUD
- dm+d or HMUD product identifier, where held
- Quantity unit of measure (UOM)
- Quantity issued
- Associated expenditure/cost, where available
The individual hospital-level breakdown is essential to this request, as NHS Board-level aggregated data would not meet the requirement.
This request is for aggregated medicines utilisation information only and does not request patient-level information
Where an expenditure or cost field is available, please also provide the definition of that field, including what the value represents within HMUD.
If any of the requested fields are not held within HMUD or cannot be released, please provide the remaining fields rather than declining the request in its entirety.”
