Public Health Scotland (PHS) has today published management information statistics on Discharges from NHSScotland Hospitals to Care Homes between 1 March and 31 May 2020.

As the principal and authoritative source of statistics on health and care services in Scotland, PHS was commissioned to undertake this work by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport on 18 August 2020. Both the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow were partners in the production of this report.

The report describes the methods used to define the cohort of patients who were discharged from NHS Scotland hospitals between 1 March and 31 May 2020 and describes their characteristics and COVID-19 testing status. It goes on to define and describe care home outbreaks of COVID-19 during the same period and analyses the factors associated with those outbreaks.

This report was originally due to be published on 30 September 2020 and was delayed to allow further data quality assurance work to be undertaken, in collaboration with NHS Boards.
