Public Health Scotland (PHS) today showcased examples of its innovative digital solutions and updated on progress made within the first year of publishing its Digital and Data Strategy.

Presenting at the Future Scot’s Health and Care Transformation 2022 event (external website), PHS shared the success of whole system modelling and its use in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The development of Artificial Intelligence in Radiology, and automating the production of statistical publications through using Reproducible Analytical Pipelines (RAP) software was also shared with delegates from the health and social care sector.

Carol Sinclair, Chief Officer at PHS, presented at the event and said:

“Whole system modelling is a leading example of digital innovation supporting and improving the planning of health services in Scotland. An enhanced modelling approach was quickly adapted for use during the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling NHS boards and the Scottish Government to plan and manage resources and respond to changing demands. Our modelling system and service is continually being developed and improved and is now being used in the remobilisation of the health service.

“We are exploring ways to improve the accessibility of our data and insights working collaboratively across the public health network. Developing digital solutions across the areas where we believe we can make the biggest difference to community health and wellbeing sits at the core of our digital vision.

“Over the past two years, more than ever before, we have seen the value and necessity for robust data and the urgency for digital solutions. This will continue to be a key priority for PHS”.
