Updates

All forthcoming outputs will be published at 9.30am unless otherwise stated.

Viral Respiratory Diseases (including Influenza and COVID-19) in Scotland Surveillance Report - Public Health Scotland presents epidemiological information on respiratory infection activity, including COVID-19, across Scotland. Due to the dynamic nature of all datasets included in this report, figures contained within each update may be subject to change in future releases. Any revised figures will then be reflected within the latest update. Between 24 April and 9 October 2025, PHS are reducing the frequency of the Viral respiratory diseases (including influenza and COVID-19) in Scotland narrative report to monthly. PHS will move to weekly dashboard only updates for respiratory infection and COVID-19 surveillance. This approach aligns to the pre-pandemic one for respiratory pathogens, which typically follow a seasonal pattern. PHS will continue to monitor COVID-19 and other respiratory infection levels and reinstate the weekly narrative report before 9 October 2025 if necessary.

Scottish Cervical Screening Programme Statistics - Public Health Scotland provides a range of annual statistics relating to the Scottish Cervical Screening Programme, including coverage and uptake by deprivation and age group. In addition, information on laboratory services will be available. On 28 May 2025 Scott Heald wrote to Ed Humpherson to request a temporary suspension of the accredited official statistics status for PHS’ cervical screening statistics. The next release will be published on 29 July 2025 as official statistics in development due to methodological changes and errors with the previous data.

NHS Waiting Times - Stage of Treatment - A new website dedicated to waiting times for planned hospital appointments and admissions was launched on 10 December 2024. This provides patients on an inpatient, day case or new outpatient waiting list with an easy-to-use platform to find out how long they are likely to wait for their appointment. It replaces the corresponding webpages hosted by NHS inform and include several improvements in response to recommendations by the Official Statistics Regulator. A key improvement is an expanded set of summary statistics that will provide a better reflection of people’s actual experience of waiting times across NHSScotland. For more information see PHS's blog.

Alcohol Consumption and Harms Dashboard - pre announced for 26 August 2025 and previously delayed until 23 September 2025, has been delayed until 14 October 2025 as further time is needed to apply methodological improvements to more closely align the analysis produced to date with the International Model of Alcohol Harms and Policies tool that produces the alcohol attributable fractions that support this release.
