Updates

All forthcoming outputs will be published at 9.30am unless otherwise stated.

Viral Respiratory Diseases in Scotland Surveillance Report -  This weekly release by Public Health Scotland presents epidemiological information on respiratory infection activity, including COVID-19, across Scotland. Due to the dynamic nature of all datasets included in this report, figures contained within each update may be subject to change in future releases. Any revised figures will then be reflected within the latest update. Please note: this year, the scheduled publication dates for the Viral Respiratory Diseases in Scotland report fall on public holidays (25 December 2025 and 1 January 2026). To accommodate this, PHS will bring the publication dates forward to 24 and 31 December 2025 at 12:30 (https://publichealthscotland.scot/about-us/who-we-are/about-our-statistics/overview/correspondence) On these dates, a dashboard-only publication will be released, ensuring continued access to statistics on viral pathogen activity throughout the festive period. Full narrative reporting will resume on 8 January 2026

Scottish Cervical Screening Programme Statistics - Public Health Scotland provides a range of annual statistics relating to the Scottish Cervical Screening Programme, including coverage and uptake by deprivation and age group. In addition, information on laboratory services is available. On 28 May 2025 Scott Heald wrote to Ed Humpherson to request a temporary suspension of the accredited official statistics status for PHS cervical screening statistics following identification of data quality issues. We published data in a new report on 29 July 2025 and have continued to work with the data supplier to finalise 2024/25 data and resolve data issues. However for this work to be  completed, this publication will now be released in February 2026 rather than November 2025.

NHS Waiting Times – Stage of Treatment statistics are now published monthly. This increase in frequency from quarterly is in response to the high level of public interest in hospital waiting times and reduces the time lag between the end of the reporting period and the release of data to around 4 weeks. Please see the PHS Impact Assessment regarding the implementation of updated guidance issued by the Scottish Government when interpreting the latest trends.

Children and young people with cancer - pre-announced for 24 June 2025 has been delayed as changes to the international classification of childhood cancers need to be verified and reviewed by the Scottish Cancer Registry. Once the codes are confirmed the publication will be updated and released as soon as possible.

Physical Activity in Healthcare: A Report on Knowledge, Training, and Attitudes of Scottish Healthcare Professionals - pre announced for 9 September 2025 has been delayed. The research referenced in this report is scheduled to be published in an article in Health Promotion International that is currently under embargo. The PHS report will be published to coincide with the academic article, and the release details will be updated as soon as PHS is notified of the article publication date.

Scottish Breast Screening Programme Statistics - pre announced for September 2025 and then delayed to December 2025 due to data quality concerns following data quality assurance checks by the breast screening unit leads has been delayed further. Once this work has been carried out the publication will be released as soon as possible.

Chronic pain waiting times- pre announced for 9 December will now be released with a new title: Waiting Times for Pain Management Services.

Drug and alcohol information system (DAISy) - Overview of Initial Assessments for Specialist Drug and Alcohol Treatment (2024/25) - preannounced for 16 December 2025 has been delayed to 27 January 2026 due to staff absence and capacity and to fully develop new reporting sections
