The Scottish Health and Inequalities Impact Assessment Network (SHIIAN) has been running since 2001.

The network aims to increase the use and quality of Health Impact Assessment (HIA) and consideration of health within Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA).

This is all done as part of a Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach in Scotland.

It is open to anyone:

  • working, or planning to work, on HIA or HiAP in Scotland and other countries
  • with an interest in HIA and HiAP, including those with no experience of these approaches who would like to learn more

SHIIAN gives practitioners the opportunity to:

  • hear about examples of HIA, HiAP and health within IIA
  • learn from one another
  • share and develop best practice

Network activities

These include:

  • presentations from speakers
  • provision of peer support
  • sharing of evidence and good practice
  • news and updates
  • lunchtime learning sessions
  • contribution to the production of HIA and HiAP resources
  • advocacy for and promotion of the use of HIA and HiAP in Scotland
  • promotion of Capital Investment Health Impact Assessment (CHIA) and health within IIA
  • opportunities to link HIA and HiAP with other public health approaches
